Tire(d) Garden
Pop-up parks are temporary parks that use art, colour, light, and community to transform underused spaces into vibrant spaces for all to enjoy. Located in Yellowknife’s downtown core, this space was previously an abandoned lot between two nightclubs. The intention of the pop-up park was to ensure that all felt welcome in the new space. YK Pop-Up Park’s public installations were created by Yellowknifers, for Yellowknifers.
Thevishka was part of an artist team that developed one of the winning ideas for the city-wide pop-up park design competition, Tire(d) Garden.
Materials used in this installation included tired, exterior paints, soil, plant material, and other items donated and found at Yellowknife’s city dump, lovingly known in town as “YKEA”.
The project was featured prominently in local and regional news media, including CBC North.
