Barrie Bus Shelter Public Art Program

The City of Barrie selected artists to design conceptual illustrative images for their bus shelters across their main transit routes. Inspired by a local poet’s work, the image was to capture the city’s diversity, inclusivity, connectivity (through transit) and key moments.

This lets viewers explore Barrie by bus. Users will be visually transported by this image of Barrie and a few of its highlighted sites, including the Barrie love sign, Spirit Catcher, Downtown Barrie, Barrie clock, Centennial Beach and more. While waiting for the bus, users can try and find key sites and explore all the intricacies the illustration will have to offer.
Key elements of the mural include:
• Inclusion of experts from unexpected destinations poem
• Key moments highlighting trips made by bus and the interactions made by users
• Bus stops and route
• Diversity in community members / public using the bus
• Key highlights/ area of Barrie
• Colourful palette
